UMW Klein Theatre to host two plays during the 2023 spring semester

UMW Pride and PrejudiceIn the fall semester, the Klein Theatre at the University of Mary Washington delighted audiences with two extraordinary productions: The Play That Goes Wrong and The Rocky Horror Show. Both plays received wonderful reception, and continued to bring energy into the college theatre community. Now that the 2023 spring semester has begun, the Klein Theatre is rehearsing, and preparing, for two exciting productions: Men on Boats and Pride and Prejudice

Men on Boats is a hard-hitting comedy about a team of explorers, whose overconfidence places them in trouble along the Colorado River. Jaclyn Backhaus’ play about adventure and conquest was characterized by NY Magazine as “marvelously destabilizing both as history and theater.”

The UMW production of Pride and Prejudice, based on the classic novel by Jane Austen, is actually a modern take on the timeless story of independence and privilege in society. This fierce adaptation was reviewed by the Wall Street journal as “adapted with fizzy, festive freedom.”

Men on Boats will run from February 9-19, with a pay-what-you-can preview on February 8th. Pride and Prejudice will run from April 6-16, with a preview on April 5th. We cannot wait to see what the Klein Theatre has in store with these two plays, and hope you will purchase tickets once the box office opens two weeks before each opening night.
