Over the years, Fredericksburg has grown in its activities for kids of all ages. If you are headed to Fredericksburg with your children or grandchildren, here are a few options for you to experience and enjoy.
When you wake up from your stay at Courtyard Fredericksburg Historic District, enjoy a delicious breakfast at Eileen’s Bakery and Cafe or Fork N’Biscuit. Begin your morning tour of Fredericksburg by introducing your kids to the horses of Olde Towne Carriage Tours, and enjoy a horse-drawn tour of downtown.
Make your way across the Rappahannock River, to George Washington’s Boyhood Home at Ferry Farm. Experience all that Ferry Farm has to offer, from a walk along the Rappahannock River to the replica of Washington’s boyhood home. But the history does not end there: swing by Hugh Mercer’s Apothecary Shop across the Rappahannock, where kids can learn more about medicinal leeches.
Once you leave the Apothecary, you will be located in the center of downtown Fredericksburg. Buy your kids a slice of Benny Vitali’s (beautifully oversized) pizza or a burger at Vivify Burger & Lounge. Top it off with a scoop of ice cream from Abner B’s Ice Cream Company, or Carl’s Frozen Custard down Princess Anne St. (Carl’s is open mid-February through mid-November).
After lunch and ice cream, swing by Fort or Jabberwocky, both on Caroline Street, where your kids can enjoy the unique and imaginative toys that they have to offer. The kids can also check out AwesomePossumz to learn more (and meet!) some rescued American marsupials. Your kids can also express their artistic skills through a class at Ponshop Studio, Art Time for Kids, and LibertyTown Arts Workshop.
Spend your afternoon at Riverfront Park, where kids can enjoy a new playground right on the Rappahannock. For the nature lovers in your family, head over to Motts Run Reservoir for an educational and beautiful day outdoors. Your kids can also learn about rare, vintage aircrafts at Shannon Air Museum.
Now that you are outside of downtown, spend the rest experiencing the Sky Trail ropes course, laser tag, or the three story go-kart track of Fun Land of Fredericksburg. Also jump around at the Sky Zone Trampoline Park. You can also an IMAX film at our local Regal Cinemas, and enjoy a show at Riverside Center for Performing Arts for the live theatre lovers in your family.
As you hit the road or railroad to leave, we know you will have loved your time in our beloved town. There are so many activities in Fredericksburg to create a lovely family vacation, and we cannot wait to have you join us.
