Oscar Arellano has always dreamed of opening his own restaurant. A native to Fredericksburg, he has worked with his family at El Charro for years. After years of working underneath his father and uncles, Arellano decided it was time to run the show. Last week Arellano opened his new restaurant, Agave Bar & Grill.
Agave sellsl Mexican food, as well as libations with top-shelf tequila. Their main staple, according to Arellano, is tacos. They also sell drinks that Arellano has enjoyed during his trips to Mexico, but has not found locally. For instance, Agave sells micheladas, a tomato-based drink with beer mixed in. They also serve frozen drinks, including margaritas.
Arellano began his journey with Agave in 2020, until the COVID-19 postponed his plans to open. About a year ago, he decided to get the ball rolling again to open the restaurant. Now, his goal to open has been achieved.
Arellano sees potential in the restaurant scene of Fredericksburg. He pointed to Fredericksburg’s location between Washington, D.C. and Richmond as a pivotal reason for its success with opening local businesses. Arellano is excited to open Agave Bar & Grill in the city that he calls home, and in his words, a city with such vast diversity. For those reasons, as well as to provide guests with great food and hospitality, he is thrilled to become a part of the restaurant community in Fredericksburg.
“I just feel like this is a growing city, with a lot of opportunity,” Arellano said.
Agave Bar & Grill is located at 101 William St.
