Rita Witte opened Always Flavored in September of 2020, when she began selling her delicious homemade sauces and seasonings. After receiving significant acclaim for her sauces, Witte opened her first brick-and-mortar in the Canal Quarter District, on Princess Anne Street, in November of 2022. And, as of April 26th, 2024, she has moved Always Flavored to a new location on Caroline Street, right in the heart of downtown Fredericksburg.
Always Flavored sells a variety of wonderful sauces, from mild to an extreme hot sauce made from pepper X, to an nationally award-winning BBQ sauce. Always Flavored also sells sandwiches and paninis, including BBQ Bacon Chicken, Furious Cuban, and Chimichurri Steak Sandwich.
Witte has wanted to own her own restaurant since she was 11 years old, and worked as a restaurant general manager for the bulk of her career. After beginning her hot sauce business and expanding Always Flavored, she realized that a fresh, quick-service sandwich shop would better serve the community than a full-service restaurant. And as of 2022, Witte accomplished her childhood goal of owning a restaurant. Now, she is excited to give back to the Fredericksburg community.
“We have built a base of people here in Fredericksburg,” Witte said. She wanted to keep her business in downtown Fredericksburg, and is thrilled to move right into the heart of Caroline Street. She hopes to eventually expand Always Flavored’s locations to Stafford and Spotsylvania, but for now, she cannot wait to get started at her new site.
Always Flavored also offers cooking classes, which Witte began teaching at the Princess Anne Street location. Her previous classes were focused on teaching kids how to make simple meals, which she intends to continue at her new location, and classes for adults as well.
Always Flavored is currently in its soft opening, and anticipates holding its Grand Opening on the weekend of June 1st. For the next few weeks, Witte will continue to serve the Fredericksburg community by making extraordinary sandwiches and sauces.
