Know Before You Go: Braehead Farm

Tucked away in a small industrial corridor right outside of Downtown Fredericksburg, Braehead Farm is the last one of its kind. Braehead’s family focus is evident from the moment you arrive, as it boasts an impressive amount of space dedicated to children. From a giant sand pit, to playground equipment, to an open hayloft with a swing, no detail has been overlooked; most notably, the treehouse especially is a wonder for children.

Holidays at Braehead Farm are a real treat. Enjoy the egg hunt for Easter, prepare for the arrival of the Great Pumpkin in the autumn pumpkin patch, and await Santa’s visit in the red barn for Christmas (accompanied by hot cocoa and s’mores). You can also celebrate birthdays and any other event at Braehead. While the farm focuses on beef and produce, there are many other animals who call it home. Chickens strut, free range, around the property. Sheep, goats and alpacas enjoy the farm, as do a small sounder of pigs. Braehead even has two sweet, beautiful horses.

Braehead Farm has an impressively streamlined pick-your-own produce operation, located in their front fields. This produce is weighed and purchased at the market, all while using one of the pre-weighed ‘buskets.’ While at the market, grab a few picnic items for lunch.

While the design and atmosphere of Braehead Farm is traditional and nostalgic, the farming practices themselves are progressive. Namely, their use of Integrated Pest Management.

Not really into picking your own produce? Their market is amazing and worth the visit just on its own.

“Stop into the market for all of your farm fresh items! Fresh produce, fresh meat and pork, free range chicken eggs, dairy fresh milk and ice cream, jams, or sauces and more!  We have fresh baked pies, cookies, muffins and loaf cakes! Ice Cream cones too!” -Braehead Farm
