Author Talk – Steven L Herman

Steven L Herman, who resides in Stafford County, will give a non-partisan insider’s look at White House news reporting and will read an excerpt from his recently-published book: “Behind the White House Curtain: A Senior Journalist’s Story of Covering the President and Why It Matters.”

Herman places the constant tension between administrations and the media into historical context. As he describes in his book, the challenges White House correspondents and the nation have faced in recent years are not unprecedented. Herman delves into his own formative experiences that led to being a White House correspondent and discusses the unique role of the Voice of America and what happens when there are attempts to interfere with journalistic independence.

He is the Voice of America’s chief national correspondent and has traveled to approximately 75 countries reporting on wars, revolutions, and natural disasters.

Herman appears frequently on major international TV and radio networks, including ABC (Australia), BBC, CBC, and CNN. He also teaches journalism at the collegiate level, including recently at the University of Richmond and Shenandoah University. He is currently a Council on Foreign Relations higher education ambassador. More about Steve Herman at: steveherman.press
