February VC Exhibit: FXBG Civil Rights Trail

This February, honor Black History Month with a meaningful journey through history at the Fredericksburg Visitor Center. From February 4–28, our Exhibit Room will feature our Fredericksburg Civil Rights Trail, highlighting the powerful stories, people, and places that helped shape the Civil Rights Movement right here in Fredericksburg.

As you walk through the exhibit, learn about topics including Shiloh Baptist Church, a cornerstone of Fredericksburg’s Black community and civil rights leadership, and the courageous Freedom Riders, whose first stop was in Fredericksburg. These stories bring local history into a broader national context and show how Fredericksburg played a role in the fight for civil rights.

After walking through the exhibit, pick up a FXBG Civil Rights Trail guide and explore the history firsthand. The 21-stop trail includes a 2.6-mile walking tour through downtown Fredericksburg and a 1.9-mile driving tour featuring sites such as the University of Mary Washington campus, Shiloh Cemetery, and the Dorothy Hart Community Center.
