GROWING TOGETHER: How Community Makes the Hugh Mercer Apothecary Shop Garden Thrive

The Hugh Mercer Apothecary Shop Garden is an educational 18th-century colonial apothecary space which has been revitalized over the past several years. It is a living part of our shared history—one that continues to grow thanks to collaboration, knowledge, and community care. This presentation brings together a diverse group of individuals from the community who each play a role in the garden’s success.

Our speakers include Ian Bugay, Gardener of Washington Heritage Museums; Mike Di Salvo, Master Gardener; Susan Barnes, Site Interpreter for the Hugh Mercer Apothecary Shop; and Jane Bailey of the Town & Country Garden Club. Together, they will share insights and stories, offering a dynamic behind-the-scenes journey into how this historic landscape grew into the vibrant educational resource it is today.

This free program is made possible by our sponsor, Lewis Insurance Associates. It is presented in partnership with the Central Rappahannock Regional Library and Washington Heritage Museums.
