The story of Latitude’s Fair Trade Store extends far beyond their gorgeous, handmade items. When Lee Owsley, who owns Latitude’s with her husband, Terry, attended a language school in Guatemala, she was inspired by the work-ethic of the artisan women in the town.
Once she returned to Virginia, Lee, an art-quilter and crafter, began a product line of ethically-produced goods. Latitude’s initially opened its Fredericksburg location in 2014 (their first location is in Warrenton), and moved a few doors down to 800 Caroline Street in 2017.
Latitude’s is a beloved store for many tourists and residents of Fredericksburg, as according to manager Terri Powers, guests fall in love with the handmade, multicultural items. Powers loves when guests who are experienced in artisan work fall in love with items from Latitude’s, and she feels that contributes to the success and quality of the store.
Latitude’s is a wonderful store on Caroline Street, and has brought a unique and exciting spin to the local stores of Fredericksburg. Follow Latitude’s on Facebook.
