With the opening of Pimenta in 2019, the Simmonds family has enjoyed providing the Fredericksburg community with authentic, delicious Jamaican cuisine. And in September of 2022, co-owners Jacqueline Simmonds and her daughter, Simone, opened another Jamaican-focused restaurant on Gateway Blvd: Mangoes.
Mangoes is a drive-thru restaurant with outdoor seating, and offers fast Jamaican cuisine. The Simmonds felt that quick-order Jamaican food is uncommon not only in Fredericksburg, but throughout the country. With Mangoes, they are giving guests a quick, affordable option for Jamaican food such as smoothies, milkshakes, and sandwiches.
“We really did this to expand the offerings of cuisine,” Simone Simmonds said.
Some of the best sellers at Mangoes include the Mango Pineapple, Strawberry Banana, and Passionfruit smoothies. Their milkshakes are made with Jamaican ice cream, with flavors such as Mango, Coconut, and Banana.
For Simone, it was an easy choice to open their second business in Fredericksburg. She and her mother opened Mangoes because of the local community, whom they credit with keeping Pimenta afloat during the COVID-19 pandemic. As they have watched the diversity in Fredericksburg continue to thrive and grow, it is the Simmonds’ belief that the diversity of food should thrive and grow as well.
Mangoes is located at 1075 Gateway Blvd. Follow them on Facebook.
