Trails, Parks & Waterfronts

Fredericksburg Dog Park (Kenmore Ave)
A fenced in, off‑leash oasis for pups (4 months+). Covered shelter, water, porta‑johns—city‑resident tags required.

Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania National Military Park
8,000 acres of historical trails—leashed dogs welcome (except in cemetery areas)

Canal Path & Rappahannock River Heritage Trail
A peaceful 1.8‑mile pedestrian route with river views. A scenic marvel for you, and easy exercise for your dog. There are multiple points along the trail where Fido can take a dip.

Old Mill Park
Riverbank park with open fields, picnic shelters, a playground, restrooms and river front views—well‑suited for leashed dogs.

Hurkamp Park & Farmers Market
Historic downtown green space, benches, fountain—and a farmers market where pups are welcome.

Motts Run Reservoir Recreation Area
Serene reservoir trails, moderate hikes & wildlife. You and your dog can forge a stream together, looking for adventure in the woods.

Riverfront Park
Riverside strolls, picnic spots, and proximity to shops and cafes —dogs stay leashed

Tip: Don’t forget to bring bags and pick up after your dog, so the parks can be enjoyed by the next visitor. Also make sure to keep your dog on a leash, even if they want to run free and explore.

Dog-Friendly Restaurants

Downtown Fredericksburg has many sidewalk cafes where you can dine, and your dog can relax.  Sammy T’s on Caroline Street is on a busy corner with lots for your dog to watch and smell and they always has water out for those dining with them or those dogs passing by. Tip: Always ask before sitting down if the outdoor tables are suitable for pets.

Maybe your dog isn’t the outdoor type, and would prefer a little shopping and pampering. Dog Krazy has you covered. The store specializes in pet nutrition, and offers a wide variety of toys, treats and other pet goods. Your dog is welcome to come in and shop alongside you. They also have a grooming service for your dog to enjoy a day of pet pampering.

Looking for a relaxing activity with your pup? Stop by Tales and Tails Book Cafe, Fredericksburg’s dog-themed bookstore, where you can grab a book and enjoy a relaxing afternoon on their dog patio.

Tip: Other stores, like Riverby Books, in downtown Fredericksburg allow pets. Always ask before bringing them in.

Photo Op: LOVE Sign

After spending the day doing what you LOVE in Fredericksburg with your best friend, you’ll need a picture to commemorate the experience. Luckily, the region has multiple Virginia LOVE signs that present the perfect photo opportunity. Find a LOVE sign downtown at Hurkamp Park. Need to get on the road? There’s an additional sign at the Virginia Welcome Center on I-95 South between exit 133 and 130.
