- Washington Heritage Museums, which include the Mary Washington House, Rising Sun Tavern and the Hugh Mercer Apothecary show early life in the 18th century. All three sites have George Washington connections. School tours to these sites are arranged by Ethan Burgess, office@washingtonheritagemuseums.org, There is discounted admission for school groups in Region 16 during the months of January and February to the Washington Heritage Museums.

- The James Monroe Museum, Fredericksburg Area Museum, George Washington Foundation, Washington Heritage Museum and the National Park Service have teamed up to create a history packet for students full of activities that can be done anywhere. Download the full packet here

- The Fredericksburg Area Museum (FAM) is pleased to announce Homeschool Investigators, a new program designed especially for homeschool students and educators. Homeschool Investigators focuses on hands-on learning through teamwork, collaboration, and problem-solving STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) activities. FAM’s homeschool programs are designed for children ages of 5 – 14-years old with a range of learning abilities and styles. FAM welcomes all children accompanied by an adult over the age of eighteen. Program tickets are $5 for FAM members and $8 for non-members. All attendees over the age of three must purchase a ticket. Ghosts of War Tour
Want something a little different?
Steve Watkins wrote the book Ghosts of War, Fallen in Fredericksburg. Have the students read the book for grades 3rd to 8th. Once completed, we will help you organize a tour to the Fredericksburg Battlefield and Chatham with a park ranger. Why those two sites, read the book!
Sample tour itinerary:

| 9:45-10:45 am: | Trolley tour. The trolley will drop students off at Chatham Manor. |
| 10:45-11:30 am: | Chatham tour. School bus to meet students at Chatham for transport to the Fredericksburg Battlefield Visitor Center. |
| 11:45-12:30 pm: | Fredericksburg Battlefield tour. School bus departs to Old Mill Park for lunch. |
| 12:45- 1:15 pm: | Lunch at Old Mill Park then leave to return to school. |
The park ranger is complimentary. Old Mill Park shelter is complimentary regardless of school system.
