Women’s History Month: Roxanna Snead, Braehead Farm

has been owned by the Snead family since the 1930s, and was initially a dairy farm. In 2013, thanks to Owner and Vice President Roxanna Snead and her husband, George, Braehead became a lovely farm ofblack and white photo of Roxanna Snead. Located right outside of downtown Fredericksburg, Braehead Farm has become a premiere destination for family fun. Braehead’s focus on rescue animals began with pigs, and the farm has since rescued alpacas, donkeys, rabbits, and many more animals. Braehead is the only agritourism farm in the City of Fredericksburg, and according to Roxanna Snead, they have been able to flourish.

Many of the products sold at Braehead Farm, including Sprelly peanut butter, are local Virginia products. Roxanna said that for her, it is essential to support local businesses, as she believes if she can feature these products, those businesses will return the favor.

As a woman co-owned business, Snead has had nothing but a wonderful time building up Braehead with her family. The Sneads have been married for 25 years, and consider their relationship to be “Outside Guy and Inside Girl.” George is out in the fields of production, and Roxanna oversees the daily functions of Braehead, from the kitchen to the farm itself. In many ways, she has become the face of Braehead Farm. Roxanna’s work and passion primarily focuses on education on the farm.

Roxanna has not found that being a woman in this industry has had too many setbacks, but according to her, that is not an accident. She said that there has been little pushback in her career, because she has always proven, and given the strong impression, that she is in control of her business.

“I don’t think I give off the aura that I can’t handle something,” she said. “I feel like I’m in charge.”
