Kick Off the Weekend at First Friday
Start your Labor Day weekend in Downtown Fredericksburg with First Friday on September 4 from 5pm – 9pm.
Explore downtown galleries, discover local art, enjoy live music, shop a little later and grab dinner or drinks along the way. Adults 21+ can also take part in Sip & Stroll while exploring downtown.
It’s an easy way to kick off a full weekend in FXBG.
Take One Last Ride on the Around the Town Trolley
All aboard one last time!
Labor Day weekend marks the final weekend of the Around the Town Trolley for the 2026 summer season. The free trolley runs Friday and Saturday evenings from 5pm – 8:30pm, making a loop through downtown with stops near restaurants, shops, museums, parks and more.
Hop on and off throughout the evening and let someone else do the driving while you explore Downtown Fredericksburg.
Saturday, September 5 is the final night of the season, so don’t miss your last chance to hop aboard!

Catch the FredNats
Spend part of the holiday weekend at the ballpark! The Fredericksburg Nationals are home at Virginia Credit Union Stadium throughout Labor Day weekend.
Catch a game Friday or Saturday evening, or make Sunday afternoon a baseball day before heading downtown for dinner.
There’s nothing quite like a summer night at the ballpark, and Labor Day weekend is a great excuse to fit in one more game before the season winds down.
Experience Living History at the Fredericksburg Battlefield
History comes to life on Saturday, September 5 at the Fredericksburg Battlefield.
Head to the Sunken Road for Living History at the Fredericksburg Battlefield, where park staff and volunteers will bring the stories of the Civil War to life. Meet historical interpreters, see period clothing and equipment, and learn more about the experiences of soldiers during the Battle of Fredericksburg.
The program is family-friendly, free and a great way to experience one of Fredericksburg’s most recognizable historic sites.

Start Saturday at the Fredericksburg Farmers Market
Before heading out for the day, start Saturday morning at the Fredericksburg Farmers Market in Hurkamp Park.
Browse locally grown produce, baked goods, flowers and handmade items from 7am – 1pm, then stick around downtown for breakfast, brunch and a little shopping.
It’s a pretty good way to start a Saturday, if you ask us.

Take a Tour of Fredericksburg
With more than 300 years of stories around nearly every corner, one of the best ways to get to know Fredericksburg is to take a tour.
Explore the city aboard a classic trolley, take a horse-drawn carriage or Model-A car ride, book a guided walking or battlefield tour, or head out on your own with one of Fredericksburg’s self-guided experiences.
You can walk the Fredericksburg Civil Rights Trail, explore Civil War history, discover the people and places that shaped our city or even see the Fredericksburg area from above in an open-cockpit biplane.
There are plenty of ways to tour FXBG, so pick your favorite and start exploring.

Get Outside
Take advantage of the long weekend and spend some time outdoors.
Walk or bike the Heritage Trail and Canal Path, explore the trails at Motts Run Reservoir, pack a picnic for Old Mill Park or spend some time on the Rappahannock River. Want to get out on the water? Book your paddle gear with the Virginia Outdoor Center and explore the river by kayak, canoe or stand-up paddleboard.
Grab Something Good to Eat
You’ll need to refuel somewhere between all that exploring.
Grab brunch, find a patio for lunch, cool off with ice cream or make plans for dinner at one of Fredericksburg’s locally owned restaurants. You can also stop by a local coffee shop, brewery, distillery or craft beverage spot while you’re here.
Have an extra day off Monday? Sounds like a good reason to try one more place before heading home.

Spend Some Time Shopping
You can always leave a little room in the weekend for shopping!
Wander Caroline, William and Princess Anne Streets to discover locally owned boutiques, bookstores, antique shops, art galleries, specialty stores and plenty of unexpected finds.
You might even spot a few signs of fall starting to pop up around downtown. We’re not rushing summer out the door, but we won’t complain about a little pumpkin here and there.
